Can Chiropractic Help With Headaches?

Can Chiropractic Help With Headaches?

                                   Can Chiropractic Help With Headaches?

If you suffer from headaches chances are you’ve tried just about everything to get relief. Maybe you’ve tried numerous medications, acupuncture, special migraine diets, avoiding triggers, going to bed and putting the covers over your head just to escape the misery of chronic headaches and associated neck tension.  Nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. These headaches range from occasional to frequent from dull and throbbing to causing debilitating pain and nausea.  Headaches are the third most popular reason that adults in America seek chiropractic care.

However, many of those who suffer with migraines do not think to use physical methods of treatment like chiropractic or deep tissue massage.  Since throbbing blood vessels are the physiological root cause of migraine headaches. It makes sense that spinal adjustments could affect the frequency and intensity of migraine headaches because the stretching and adjusting bones, joints and body tissues can impact the way blood vessels function.

Research from The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JPMT) indicates that spinal manipulation (chiropractic adjustment) may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate from in the neck.

Additionally, chiropractic has been shown to improve migraines.

At the Cafe of Life Chiropractic Center in Marin County, we counsel practice members on nutritional advice and recommend changes in diet. We offer advice on posture, ergonomics (work posture), exercises and relaxation techniques.  This advice often helps to release the joint irritation and tension in the muscles of the neck and upper back.  Our experience is that spinal adjustments in combination with massage therapy done in rhythm over time has been very helpful for our practice members who suffer from chronic migraine headaches. Don’t forget to hydrate! Most headaches have a dehydration component.

If you or someone you know is suffering with headaches, call the office for a complimentary consultation to determine if we can help. Chiropractic helps people heal from the inside out. Clearly with the opioid epidemic in our country a natural approach seems like the most common sense option.
