Getting Outdoors in 2016

One of the most common New Year’s traditions is to set resolutions for the New Year. A lot of resolutions revolve around hitting the gym and improving your diet. I think it’s important to stick to a health and wellness plan so I wanted to give you some suggestions to keep your exercise routine fun, starting with bringing your exercise outside!

This past September I stressed the importance of getting outside as a great way to relax, but you can also bring part (if not all) of you workout outside as well. For example, instead of spending the first 15-20 minutes of your workout doing cardio on a machine at the gym go for a walk/jog/run in one of the many amazing spots in our beautiful neighborhood. Here are a few of my favorite spots to go:

  • Point Reyes National Seashore: There are many beautiful hiking trails at this park. In addition to the amazing views, there are multiple opportunities to spot wildlife.

  • Bayfront Park: This park is very closeby our office and has some lovely hiking trails. It is also dog friendly so there are some wildlife views here as well ;)

  • Bothin Marsh Preserve: This wetlands park has great hiking trails and canoe/kayaking available as well if you’d like to get in the water.

  • Muir Woods: Nothing beats taking a run through giant redwoods!

These are just a few of my favorites, and it’s hard to narrow down the list since there are so many options in the Mill Valley area! What are some of your favorite spots to exercise outside? Let me know in the comments!
